Odessa, September 1942: On the 3rd of September, the Colonel Mihailescu Detachment, in conjunction with the supporting German 70th Assault Pioneer Battalion, effectively secured control of the town of Vakarzhany. This locale had been the site of intense combat, with Russian forces operating clandestinely behind enemy lines.
Continuing the campaign, on the 12th of September, the Romanian 4th Army initiated a renewed offensive. The 3rd and 7th Infantry Divisions accomplished the capture of Bol'Bostanaya Hill. Later in the evening, Romanian forces suffer a Russian counterattack.
