Released Today!

The fertile mind of Neal Reid has produced, yet another new card game! This time, it's a WWII strategy game for the North African campaign, entitled This Hard & Calcined Earth.

This Hard & Calcined Earth

The title is a quotation from the beginning of episode 8 of the famous Thames TV series World At War. Well worth seeing if you haven't seen it already.

The game deals with all the complexities of the historical campaign, yet is physically small enough to put it in your pocket and play it down the pub, on a train, or in the garden. The rules are simple to learn but difficult to master.

With THACE, events affect the outcome of the game, but you always have some element of control. The game provides an alternative, feasible history of the North Africa Campaign every time it's played. It is, in other words, a campaign in your pocket.

Free Downloads

The rules are available from vexillia.com as a free download along with Neal's notes: Rules & Historical Chronology/Designer's Notes.

PDF or Print?

You can buy the game from Wargame Vault as either a print & play PDF or as printed cards.

We are also considering having the cards printed in bulk, which would allow us to reduce the cost of delivery. We have found a U.K.-based printer, but we need a minimum of 40 firm orders to make a print run viable.

To assess demand, we've set up a simple VexStarter form for U.K. and E.U. customers who'd like printed cards. No deposit is required, just a firm expression of interest. We will only take payment once we've enough orders and are ready to place the order with the printer.
