THE COLORS OF NAPOLEON'S ARMY 1807-1815: Painting Guide

THE COLORS OF NAPOLEON'S ARMY 1807-1815: Painting Guide Researching uniforms at the Musee de l'Emperi in Salon-de-Provence (France) and with assistance of private collector Jean Brunon, we examined the best existing samples of First Empire uniforms and nearly all of our visual color matches were made using interior surfaces of actual surviving sample uniforms, behind linings, where colors were most likely to remain consistent over the past 200 years. The printer used actual samples of cloth to match the colors presented in this painting guide. These were checked against cloth samples in other museums and institutions to provide cross-references. The goal of this four-page painting guide was to authenticate the color Imperial Blue used on all French infantry and artillery uniforms. $10.00 USD

ALEXANDER THE GREAT'S LEGACY: The Decline of Macedonian Europe in the Wake of the Wars of the Successors

ALEXANDER THE GREAT'S LEGACY: The Decline of Macedonian Europe in the Wake of the Wars of the Successors Explores how both the unique character and the particular legacy left when Alexander died at age of 32 in Babylon in 323BC, ensured that his homeland failed to gain the kind of imperial dividend that accrued to others of the world's great Empires. For Macedon, there was not the thousand years of glory that was the extraordinary destiny of the Romans, nor even the 200 years of Persian primacy, only 50 or so years of strife and trauma ending in a Galatian invasion. This was a period during which Cassander and Lysimachus had seemed about to construct durable Europe-based polities and had seen the likes of Demetrius Poliorcetes and Pyrrhus of Epirus battling and besieging across Macedonia, Thrace, and Greece. $43.00 USD

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS: Sweden and the Thirty Years War, 1630-1632

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS: Sweden and the Thirty Years War, 1630-1632 As one of the foremost military commanders of the early 17th century Gustavus Adophus, king of Sweden, played a vital role in defending the Protestant cause during the Thirty Years War. In the space of two years – between 1630 and 1632 – he turned the course of the war, winning a decisive victory at the Battle of Breitenfeld and conquering large parts of Germany.

Includes his intervention in the Thirty Years War is covered in graphic detail – the decision to intervene, his alliance with France, his campaigns across the breadth of Germany, and his generalship at the two major battles. THE FIRE OF VENTURE WAS IN HIS VEINS: Major Allan Wilson and the Shangani Patrol 1893

THE FIRE OF VENTURE WAS IN HIS VEINS: Major Allan Wilson and the Shangani Patrol 1893 The Shangani or Allan Wilson's Patrol was a minor incident in the British expansion in Africa. Much smaller in scale than the massacre of Isandlwana, the fate of the Patrol was a black mark on the British South Africa's conquest of Matabeleland. The Patrol was part of the Ndebele War of 1893-94 which ended in the overthrow of the kingdom of Lobengula, King of the Ndebele. Includes 30 black-and-white illustrations and 4 maps. $35.00 USD

THE BATTLE FOR BALTIMORE 1814 The War of 1812 gets little attention in American history; however, this two and a half year conflict had serious consequences, which left regional memories and legends that have endured to the present day. The major actions of the war occurred along the Canadian border but also included the Gulf, Atlantic Coast, and the Chesapeake Bay. Three major events in the Chesapeake Bay (the battles for Hampton, Washington, and Baltimore) have overshadowed other incidents in the bay to the point of obscuring them. A bibliography and an index to full-names, places, and subjects enhance this work. $33.00 USD

CHASING THE GREAT RETREAT: The German Cavalry Pursuit of the British Expeditionary Force before the Battle of the Marne August 1914

CHASING THE GREAT RETREAT: The German Cavalry Pursuit of the British Expeditionary Force before the Battle of the Marne August 1914 Focus is on the German pursuit of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) retreat. We show that the Great War should have ended on 23 August 1914 but, due to the 'fog and friction of war' it did not and 'Chasing the BEF' was born. This is a story of missed opportunities made more astonishing by the amount of propaganda extolled by some British authors. This propaganda line claimed that British firepower dealt a great blow to the German army at the Battle of Mons. Much is told about the British soldiers' ability to fire 15 rounds of aimed shooting in a minute, which allegedly the Germans mistook for machine-gun fire. Clearly in their eyes, the British won that battle. Britain, in fact, lost the Battle of Mons and should have lost the war on 23 August. Germany missed a wide-open door that would have spelled disaster for the BEF and the entire Left Flank of the French army. Includes 27 black-and-white photos and 15 maps. $50.00 USD
