Avast & Clear the Decks! There Be Black Seas Ahead!
It's all aboard as we prepare for the Age Of Sail! Today sees the launch of the Black Seas pre-order. Warlord's very own Gabrio Tolentino has developed these rules over the last two years with a whole host of playtesters.
We've even got two free items for you on certain offers before midnight, Sunday, 8 September! Read on to discover more…
Ships Ahoy!
The plastic frames for the Brigs, Frigates and Third Rates arrive in our factory very soon.
To give you an idea of how a 1:700th frigate will go together, here is the instruction sheet made from renders of the actual plastics!
And here are the very first box images we have been given from the studio:
As you can see, we plan on bringing you the key First Rate ships-of-the-line (these are resin-and-metal with specific details), as well as their fleets, which will include the small gun/bomb vessels as well. There will also be separate box sets of the superb plastic Third Rates, frigates and brigs.
Of course, you'll be needing the main rules. These will come in a choice of a limited leatherette hardbound version or softback A4 size. The softback set of rules will be included inside the main Master & Commander starter set alongside everything you'll need to play: including stunningly detailed plastic ships, complete with add-on rigging and sails (sail detail painted by the renowned Peter Denis, no less), card tokens, dice, smoke, ship cards and more!
The book itself is gloriously detailed, and you can see Gabrio's passion for the period throughout the 96 pages. It includes everything to play rules-wise as you'd expect, but also delves into the likes of painting and rigging your vessels, campaign play, linking to games of Black Powder, and national-specific rules options!
We can't forget the special miniature either:
This Seas Wolf comes free with the book or starter set when you order via the Warlord webstore.
This Jolly Jack Tar (admittedly looking more terrifying than jolly) is seen leading a party ashore, armed to the teeth with cutlass and pistol.
British Admiral Lord Thomas Cochrane (the inspiration behind the Hornblower series of novels) issued orders that bayonets be strapped to the forearms of his boarding parties, which would provide an excellent offensive weapon as well as a way to ward off enemy attacks.
