Starbuilder #2

Starbuilder is a companion zine to Scratch Builder Monthly. In this new zine, I discuss topics like: map making for spacefaring games, information on a different star type and possible effects on game narratives. I use astronomy wherever possible to construct my fiction, and provide sources for anyone interested in similar topics.

All information is as generic as possible and not specific to any wargame or RPG. The zine will explore questions like: How does a red dwarf star affect its system? What is a possible architecture for such a system? and how do I produce a campaign map using the star type as a focus? I find that many game maps do not concentrate enough on the star itself, the core engine of the entire system. Every month, I discuss a new star, from neutron systems to blue giants. I also give ideas for solar infra structure, provide an example alien civilization or creature for the system being discussed.

And there is even a short index with some printable tables, star profiles, and other goodies.

This zine is where I create maps and lore for spacefaring games, while Scratch Builder Monthly shows how I bring similar concepts to life on the tabletop. The zine focuses on the stars themselves, their effects on planet profiles, and possible hazards for space battles.

I have worked as a wildlife biologist in the past, this includes zoo-keeping in NYC zoos, extensive field work, and internships at the American Museum of Natural History. We are all shaped by our experiences, and for me, said experiences is what I draw upon today to dream of fictional worlds upon an ever-expanding universe.
