With haltering steps, the small line of Todoroni infantry shuffled first left and then right as their new officer stood in front of them, sword drawn and waved over his bicorned head.
"Ha! You is no good at da command Capatain. I will show how et is a done." This from a richly uniformed, older Todoroni officer sat upon his riding hippo. "Forma up! Facea de front! Muskettes at da shoulder!"
This instruction confused the infantry of the Cotechina Guarda even further, as it was not their normal drill instructions. They looked at each other and moved once again. As one of the few battle-hardened veteran regiments of Nepolise, it had fallen to them to be temporarily imposed upon by newly minted officers of the Academie. It was going as well as could be expected with the Todoroni's reputation for being all show and no standing, as the Albion Orcs would say. "Betta, betta. Capatain, you follow a me and try again eh."
The young noble Toadman was about to try once more when a glint of metal caught his eye. It was in the tree line behind the troops. What was that? It looked like a bayonet. A long, serrated bayonet in the hands of… of the enemy! "Sir, Majora! Sir… I seea de enemy!"
The mounted Major looked to the trees, and was about to berate his inferior for speaking out of turn, when out of them burst a dozen Dogmen in the white and red of Ostaria. They leveled their blunderbusses and charged! "Er. Quicka. Makea de about a face!"
While the Cotechina infantry looked at the major wondering what he was talking about, a ragged blast of gunfire sent tiny musket balls whipping past the Todoroni. A few cried out as they were struck….
