We're pleased to bring you our Patrician Roman/Early Byzantine expansion of our popular Late Roman line - armoured horse archers, and elite "bukelarii" lancers, as well as a commander in somewhat later armour. Like all of our Later Roman Empire models, they were sculpted by clibinarium. These models were painted by Chris Yaro.

Belisarians

The basic armoured horseman has dropped the spear and shield and now uses a Hunnic-type bow to deadly effect. There are three poses - two are break-waist so they can be posed shooting forward at various angles, and they may be swapped as well to get further variation. A third model, in chainmail, is one piece (as he's wearing chainmail, he does not have pteruges at the waist, and thus would be impractical to make as break-waist.)

As with the Huns, the pin in the upper body is longer than the hole in the lower body, so you can either drill out the hole further with a pin vise, or trim the pin, as you prefer.

Belisarian bukelarii

Also available are the elite guardsmen who carry a lance as well as a bow. These "bukelarii" always get the job done for their Roman/Byzantine warlord! These models are both one-piece.

Belisarius

Finally, we have a revised command pack with a general matching the illustration in Roy Boss's book on Justinian's army, looking a bit less classical! We think this fellow might also be a fine alternative as a Late Roman general, as well.

Finally, we have a pack of a dozen smaller round shields to add to random cavalry archers or bukelarii if one wishes, to give yet more variety of appearance.

With a little help from their Hunnic mercenaries (also recently released), these are ready to reconquer the Med for Rome! For infantry, use the troops already available. These new codes are at the bottom of the Late Roman page on our webstore.

Happy gaming!
