On 9 May 1972, CVA-43, U.S.S. Coral Sea launched three A-6A Intruders loaded with mines in support of the mining operation directed against Haiphong Harbor. The A-6 flight led by the CAG, CMDR Roger Sheets, was composed of U.S.M.C. aircraft from VMA-224. Flights of F-4B Phantom IIs flew cover against North Vietnamese MiGs.
