The subject line said the key points, but here's a bit more by way of expository details:
The Mahdist Wars Sourcebook has become widely accepted as a fundamental title on every Sudan War gamer's shelf, but this new printing has reduced some of the more embarrassing typos (especially in the second volume) that marred another otherwise great read.
The text of John Company, on the other hand, is virtually unchanged as the only dedicated set of rules for warfare on the subcontinent from 1750 to 1860.
But of special note with this newly printed 3rd Edition is the dramatic drop in price, from $45.00 USD to $30.00 USD! This was made possible by providing the many previously full-color, cardstock game accessories (card decks, counters, templates, etc) as a separate, optional supplement.
Instead, all of these same items now appear within the covers of the 196-page book in black-and-white, printed on paper and bound into the back. Thus, everything required to play the game and familiarize oneself with the systems is provided, more or less for "free," and if the high quality, full-color cardstock accessories - including three special card decks now offered pre-cut and shrink wrapped - are desired, they may be bought at a later date.
And don't let that 196 page-count fool you! Only 78 pages cover the basic game system (with many pages of diagrams and tables), and this in 14-point font for easy reading and quick location of rules or terms.
The rest consists of optional rules, organizational and tactical data for the British (through different periods) and the HEIC troops themselves, plus concentrated information on the Afghan, Sikh, and Mahratha military systems.
Detailed rules for weather, and data on uniforms, figure resources, chronologies, mark John Company as more than the only rules specifically representing combat in India, but as an invaluable resourcebook, as well.
And now, inexpensive enough to tempt even the most frugal rules buyer!
