Dominion of Pike and Shot

A very, very simple set of solo wargames rules, built on the Dominion of the Spear game engine, allowing one to fight two Renaissance armies (1495 to 1667) against each other in around ten minutes. They are written for the game to generate a plausible and with some imagination and an amusing narrative. Although figures can be used, battles can easily be fought on paper (no measuring) using pen or pencil and two different colored six-sided dice.

95 army lists are included divided into the periods: Italian Wars, Ottoman Turk Wars, Northern and Eastern Europe, England and Scotland and Ireland, Dutch Revolt (80 Years War), French Wars of Religion, Thirty Years War, English Civil Wars, Wars of the Polish Deluge, and Around the World. Armies consist of three to six units or commands, and the points system is included. There is a complete play-through of a battle between a French army and a Spanish army in the latter part of the Italian Wars.

A very brief introduction to Renaissance warfare, and designer notes are included along with a quick reference sheet on the back cover. The rules include pre-battle artillery bombardments, artillery, rallying units, Spanish Tercios, and different types of cavalry (such as Reiters and Cuirassiers).

This is easily read on a tablet or mobile phone, and can be printed as an A5 booklet (click booklet and fit-to-page in printing options). 32 A5 pages.
