stingray20166, it looks very promising. The production values are strong – lots and lots of color photograhps illustrating line of sight, movement, etc.

I have only read part of it, but movement and shooting are very similar to Mordheim, if you are familiar with that game (one of my favorites). The hand-to-hand combat, though, is significantly different than Mordheim. I never played GW's LotR games, but my impression is that the h-to-h is similar to that game. You determine who "wins" the combat, and the loser is pushed back an inch and the winner gets to make a "to hit" roll aginst the loser. There are fame and fortune points too, but I have not read that bit of the rules. As I recall from skimming the LotR rules, there is something similar. I think fame points let you modify die rolls. Not sure about fortune points.

Just looking over the campaign section, it seems very closely modeled on the Mordheim rules, also used in Legends of the Old West. I think the Mordheim campaign rules are VERY strong, so the similarity here is a Good Thing.

There is also a chapter on ship-to-ship combat. I haven't read it yet, though.

Hope the above helps. If you have any specific questions, I can have a look and see if I can find an answer. I am going to finish reading the rules in the next few days, I hope, and try to play a test game or two. I am planning on writing a review after that, if no one has done a thorough one yet.

The new release of a rulebook titled Legends of the High Seas has been announced as part of the Warhammer Historical range. Legends of the High Seas is a tabletop miniatures game set in the Golden Age of Piracy, and you take control of brave Royal Navy Captains, brutal Pirates, or greedy Privateers who sailed the Caribbean Sea. A series of scenarios enables you to steal a ship or hunt for buried treasure on your way to fame and fortune!

Pirate ship

Pirates, of course, wouldn't be pirates without a ship - so we here at Games of War have entered into the ship building business! We have created this 28mm Pirate Ship, based loosely upon the Black Pearl, to compliment the Legends of the High Seas range.

Measuring 500mm from bow to stern and 650mm overall, she's a fine craft indeed! She has a 130mm deck from port to starboard, and is 150mm from sea level to the top of the Poop Deck, measuring 420mm in overall height. Made from High Density Foam PVC, she comes ready-built and ready to paint!
