"Uncle" Duke Seifried, GAMA Hall of Famer, HMGS Legion of Honor and Scruby Awardee, underwent triple-bypass open-heart surgery last week near his home in Wisconsin. His wife Annette reports that Duke came through the surgery in very good condition and, aside from some pain, is recovering well. He is now home from the hospital and undergoing initial rehab under Annette's care.
Cards, letters or flowers may be sent to Duke Seifried c/o Annette, 509 N. Wuthering Hills Dr., Janesville, WI 53546.
Duke's achievements to the Historical Miniatures gaming society and gaming industry over the past 40 years are vast. He started or was involved in several game and miniature producing companies, including vice-president of TSR. He also published Melee, one of the first wargames ever published in the U.S.A. His showmanship, stunning dioramas and detailed figures have set the Game Master Standard for convention wargame presentation. Duke is an accomplished historian, master figure sculptor/painter, game designer, and hobby industry executive. However, to fellow wargamers, he is "Uncle Duke." Duke is a founding member of the HMGS Legion of Honor, one of the original HMGS Jack Scruby Award recipients, Origins Award winner, and member of the GAMA Hall of Fame for the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design.
