There's got to be a reason that no company has managed to produce a long-running game series based on Star Trek (including FASA, although they have given it the best shot to date) yet the Starfleet Universe is still going strong after almost 30 years (IIRC the SFB pocket game came out in '79).

Also, the Starfleet Universe is not 'stuck' in time, they just started from the time period of classic Trek but went in a different direction to Paramount; they *have* advanced the timeline considerably in several products and they introduced the ISC which could be viewed as a sort of Jem'Hadar. Then there is also the Omega Sector stuff which uses the same game system but none of the 'Star Trek' elements, that's pretty cool.

I'm a huge Trek fan, but I'm quite happy that SFB/FC have gone in their own separate direction.
