NOW FOR SOME RULES...

HAMMERIN' IRON ACW Naval Rules

HAMMERIN' IRON. The first version of these ACW naval rules came out 20+ years ago. This 2011 edition uses many of the earlier mechanisms but now includes a scenario generator, more ship statistics, fire rafts, torpedo boats, mines, submarines, and forts. Excellent. The rules include order cards and play sheets. No additional books needed. Gives a really nice game in 2.5 hours or less. A wire spine allows the book to be laid flat when gaming. All mechanisms use six-sided dice, 1:600th or 1:1200th scale ships, fixed and free hex systems, scenario generator, and victory point system. new - softcover, available early June 2011. $36.00 USD

MARCH ATTACK: Napoleonic Wargame Rules. An 80-page A4, full-color, perfect-bound book. The rules are designed to allow players to fight large battles with battalion sized units in a reasonable amount of time. A ground scale of 1 inch to 60 yards, one turn representing 20 minutes, and fast-paced strategic movement rules mean that battles play out at a realistic rate. Combat is dealt with in a manner that allows large numbers of units to be fielded and the interaction between strategic movement and tactical combat allows for a fast-paced game that keeps a good level of detail. Seven different training and morale levels combined with the historical strength of a unit introduces the concept of 'Combat Value'. This ties together all of the tactical rules and ensures that troop quality, more than just luck or buckets of dice, plays an important part in every battle. $35.00 USD - here in two to three weeks

BRITISH GRENADIER: American Revolution Rules - Deluxe Edition. 8.5x11 with lavish illustration, tables, game counters, and scenarios. British Grenadier can also be used to re-fight battles of the French and Indian Wars and the War of 1812. Changes to the new edition rules - besides a complete edit of the old rules - include: compilation of various rule amendments from the period since the rules appearance, including brigade moves, reinforcements marches, and changes to artillery DP rallies. Some new rules have been added, including the Bayonet Charge rule. Revised artillery firing table. New scenarios for Sainte Foy (F&IW) and Chippawa (War of 1812), plus a revised Freemans Farm scenario. High quality graphic design, including order markers, and comes with a gloss laminated full-color four-page Quick Reference Sheet. $48.00 USD - here in two to three weeks.

BENEATH THE LILY BANNERS: Fastplay Wargames Rules 1660-1721 2nd Edition. 8.5x11, full-color, quick-play rules with about 100 photos, two-sheet QRS in color and laminated. Softback and perfect bound. In the style of Republic to Empire, but in a two-column layout instead of three columns. $45.00 USD - here in two to three weeks.

SOLDIERS ON TWO WHEELS: Motorcycles in the Austrian Army of the First Republic 1920-1938. The book has 320 pages with more than 350 illustrations and photographs and is dedicated to Austria's use of motorcycles in the military. It starts in 1903 with the first deployment of two-wheeled vehicles on maneuvers in the k.u.k. Army, has its main focus on the Austrian Federal Army (the Bundesheer) of the First Republic (1920-1938), and provides an insight into the acquisition and the assignment of motorcycles (also with sidecars) in the Austrian Federal Army (many well-known brands were in use, such as Puch, BMW, NSU, Harley-Davidson, James etc.). The text is complemented by numerous contemporary photographs as well as graphics and color photographs of historical motorcycles related to the military from private collections. MORE INTERESTING BOOKS...

UNIFORMS OF THE SCOTTISH REGIMENTS 1707-1914: Vol 1 Mounted Regiments to 42nd Foot. 135 plates with textual caption pages accompanying each plate. Available early June 2011 $25.00 USD

SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION: Battlefield Histories. Battlefield by battlefield study of the numerous battles/campaigns from 1775 to 1783 in South Carolina. More battles were fought in SC than any other state. Includes b/w maps, biblio, and index. 1 vol, 260 pgs 2008 U.S., UNIV S.CAROLINA softcover $22.00 USD - in stock

SOUTHERN STRATEGY: Britain's Conquest of SC and GA. The Southern Strategy shifts the traditional vantage point of the American Revolution from the Northern colonies to the South in this study of the critical period from 1775 to the spring of 1780. It suggests that the paradox of the British defeat in 1781 - after Crown armies had crushed all organized resistance in South Carolina and Georgia - makes sense only if one understands the fundamental flaws in what modern historians label Britain's 'Southern Strategy.' It examines battles and skirmishes to construct a comprehensive military history of the Revolution in the South through May 1780. A cartographer and student of battlefield geography, the author includes detailed, original battle maps and orders of battle for each engagement. Appraising the strategy and tactics of the most significant conflicts, he tests the thesis that the British could raise the manpower they needed to win in the South by tapping a vast reservoir of Southern Loyalists and finds their policy flawed in both conception and execution. UNIV OF SO. CAROLINA softcover. $22.00 USD - in stock
