The bunks are not bad. Stayed over in her about five years ago. Heater was too hot, though.

You've played wargames in your home or in your "clubhouse"…

You've played wargames at your local game store…

You've played wargames at a university…

You've played wargames at a high school…

You've played wargames in a hotel or convention center...

If you've been fortunate, you've even played wargames inside the National WWII Museum in New Orleans…

Well, come this September 24th and 25th, 2011, the Houston Area Historical Miniature Society (HaHMS), Houston Beer and Pretzel Wargaming, the Houston Area Wargamers Facebook group, and Fights On! are pleased to bring you perhaps the coolest wargaming venue yet…

USS TEXAS aside the San Jacinto Monument

Please come join us for Texas Broadside! 2011 aboard the USS Texas (BB-35), the flagship of the Texas Navy and the last dreadnought-era battleship in existence!!

This weekend event will feature:

  • U.S. naval and naval-air wargaming, throughout various periods of U.S.N. history, including real and hypothetical battles involving the USS Texas.
  • Meet special guest Mal Wright, naval historian, painter, and wargame developer.
  • Refight a naval battle beside a five-inch, 51-caliber naval gun, one of 21 originally carried aboard the Texas in 1914.
  • Much like the National WWII Museum has done with Heat of Battle, all games will be played in a public setting, to both help educate the public and grow historical wargaming in Houston.
  • Play wargames inside the air-conditioned Wardroom and Dreadnought Room on board the Mighty "T".
  • Dine aboard the ship that saw the first at-sea launch of a Sopwith Camel, and was the first U.S. ship to control gunfire with directors and range-keepers.
  • Join our overnight session for open gaming, on-board "rack" accommodation, breakfast, and a Sunday morning tour of the ship.
  • All proceeds will benefit the ongoing preservation of the USS Texas.
Game into the evening and then sleep aboard ship
