Doug,

I agree that the look/feel of the setting is more 16th century than 17th century, though there is some overlap. Keep me posted if you go ahead with the project!

We are very pleased to release our latest 15mm historical range, the Renaissance Irish from the 16th Century.

Renaissance Irish by Khurasan Miniatures

This period culminated in the cataclysmic Tyrone's Rebellion, which was a disaster first for the English and then for the Irish. Only by great national effort was Elizabeth able to put down this rebellion, but once she did, all of Ireland fell under English rule for over 300 years.

Although these armies always contained traditional, essentially medieval elements, such as light cavalry, lightly-armed native Irish infantry, and heavily armoured Galloglaich axemen, later in the century, these forces also contained pikemen and arquebusiers, many of whom had experience fighting in the Spanish armies on the continent.

The line is complete and contains the following:

Native Irish Warriors

Native Irish Pikemen

Native Irish Arquebusiers

Native Irish or "Redshanks" Archers

Irish

Irish Foot Command (Chieftain, Piper, Standardbearer and Galloglaich Leader)

The shields on the armored cavalry and the native Irish foot warriors are separate – some of the shields have javelins cast on them. Pikes, cavalry spears, and standard poles are separate and provided.
