Urban War: Sand Raider Decurion Preview

Mardaddy writes:

I loved the old VOID Sand Raiders enough to buy a dozen plus of them over the years (and if anyone has any they want to clear out, let me know, I'm always in the market!)

Just so happens I played a VOID game last week, so they still do see the table once in while.

The Urban War versions don't "hit" me like the VOID ones did. I think it has a lot to do with the difference between liking the nominally-Romanesque look and not liking the full-on version. How does that Decurion steer that thing with the standard in hand? Could have mounted it on the rear of the Raider and accomplished the same goal of designating it a, "leader-type."

Unfortunately, I don't plan on making any Sand Raider purchases to replace my VOID stuff, and I don't play Ironglass in UW anyways. I stick to Syntha and the slugs…

Urban Mammoth is pleased to post photos of the upcoming Junker Sand Raider Decurion model for the Urban War second-edition rules. These photos are from the painting table of Ángel Giráldez (studiogiraldez.blogspot.com/), who will be doing the paintjob for this exciting new model.

Sand Raider Decurion

Dune Raider units are equipped with rugged quad bikes that are usually fitted with heavily modified versions of standard infantry weapons. These legionaries are generally employed for scouting out enemy positions, harrying isolated pockets of enemy resistance, and providing support to the slower foot-based elements of the army. These fast-attack elements of the Junker Legions also have a well-deserved reputation for depravity, and mobile strike forces are often detailed off to pillage and despoil regions deep within enemy territory.

As is the norm in the Legions, Dune Raider Decurions have gained their rank through merit and many hard-fought battles. They invariably lead from the front, and will always be found in the thick of the fighting, or hunting out the richest loot.
