Neither is playing with toy soldiers… Some of you are absolutely amazing, and it is no surprise that folks think kids need to be protected even from the cookie monster..

I played with toy soldiers and toy guns. So did my little brothers and all our friends. I read stories about real heroes as a child, guys like Audie Murphy and Alvin York were great. I read comics about SGT Rock, and the crew of the Haunted Tank. I guarantee I was younger than the target audience of these toys when doing this. By the way, my Dad, a Vietnam veteran bought me many of these toys. My grandfathers, both WW2 veterans also bought and played toy soldiers with me. All had seen what war is. My Dad actually just gave me a M1A1 tank Christmas decoration for our tree. My daughter can't wait to put it and the Santa delivering gifts in a CH-47 decoration we have on the tree.

I spent about ten years on active duty and have been places where I could earn combat pay. I still work supporting the army. My wife is still on active duty and in a war zone. We both have bought toy soldiers for our kids. We also have both attended funerals and memorial services for buddies and know what war is about.

These particular toys come with a story about some real live heroes. I again point to the Army Values I listed above. Why are you folks so against teaching kids that soldiers who upheld those values, took risks and made sacrifices for others are not worthy to consider as heroes? Do you also not let them watch pro sports because they may learn that hitting people for money is good? Do you not let them watch CHIPS reruns because police work can be violent and dangerous? What values do you teach your kids? What role models do you present them and encourage them to emulate?

I really do not understand this at all.
