Grant Dalgliesh of Columbia Games writes:

150 years ago this month, the United States presidential election campaign was reaching its climax. The Democratic party had split on regional lines over the slavery issue, Southern Democrats nominating John Breckinridge and Northern Democrats choosing Stephen Douglas. This split allowed the Republican party's nominee, Abraham Lincoln, to win and the nation began its path to civil war. It might be fair to say the Civil War began with Lincoln's election, though no guns would be fired for six months.

Over the next five years, there are countless ACW events reaching their sesquicentennial (150 years). The period is full of dramatic events replete with heroism and tragedy. As the anniversaries of major events unfold, there will be a resurgence in the popularity of the period.

DIXIE

Dixie cards

Dixie Civil War cards make great gifts. The cards are a joy to look at for gamers and non-gamers. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. This holiday season, you can give Dixie decks to everyone you know. They're on sale now through the end of November for just $4.99 USD per deck. Sale price applies to both Bull Run and Shiloh decks.

SHILOH

Shiloh boardgame

We're also pleased to announce the upcoming release of Shiloh: April Glory.

Shiloh was initially developed from the Gettysburg: Badges of Courage game system. However, the game mechanics have been completely overhauled.

The map is divided into large areas, and combat is resolved within areas. The game plays using the fast-paced Move-Move-Battle sequence seen in Hammer of the Scots and Julius Caesar. There are no cards involved; players make group moves which are improved by leaders of the same division or corps.

The game plays smoothly and quickly; each player gets to play one day on offense and one day on defense for a great gaming experience. Game time is two to four hours for both days of Shiloh.

Important: Shiloh pre-orders will include a free mounted map ($30 USD value) instead of a pre-order discount.

Shiloh pre-orders are billing now, and will continue to be accepted only until October 31.
