It means 'Don't get out much…'

But the end result was well worth it!

On Sunday, 22nd July, we'll be holding the Third Sort-of-Annual Baccus Gaming Day. Held in conjunction with Sheffield Irregulars' IMP event, this will be staged at the Workstation in Sheffield. The venue is very close to Sheffield interchange, and is thus easily accessible by both public and private transport. Following last year's successful format, we'll be staging some of the very best and most spectacular 6mm games around, along with the opportunity to join and play. As of today, the following games are booked in:

Baccus Gaming Day
The Very Large Towton Project
Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of Wars of the Roses (around 17,000 as I recall), plus a big table, some snowy terrain, and what can only be described as 'dedicated' wargamers.
How long did it take to paint this lot?
Fraustadt
Continuing the snowy theme, but this time set in the Great Northern War, this promises to be a beautifully staged game presented by Per Broden and Nick Dorrell. Played using Polemos rules, there will be opportunities for brave souls to take on a command.
Vimiero
A game that I am really looking forward to seeing. At last year's Gaming Day, this group presented an ACW game which I am happy to put down in record as being the best presented wargame that I had seen in any scale. I am really chuffed that they have chosen to unveil their new project at this year's event, especially as they have promised that this one will be even better than their first attempt. I cannot wait…
Yes, I know it's last year's ACW game, but always worth a second look!
Trebbia
Staged by Mike Salwey, this is quite simply one of the best Punic Wars games that you could ask to see. Thousands of figures on the table, but with room left to show how things progress, rather then the usual shoulder-to-shoulder, limited-depth, across-the-table slugfest that most demo Ancient games seem to be.
A welcoming party for the Romans
Colonial Sudan
Those who were lucky enough to attend the 2011 Gaming Day can't fail to forget Dan Hodgson's wonderful Zulu Wars layout, featuring the entire stretch of African geography from Isandhlwana to Rorke's Drift. This year, the quality will remain the same, although the scale of the game will be more limited, as the focus of Empire shifts northwards, and Peter Riley showcases his Polemos Colonial rules. Peter is looking for players and participants, and will welcome you if you fancy having a go.
More Zulus than you can want to see at once if you wearing a red coat...
Spanish Succession
Chris Grice will be presenting a battle from the Spanish Succession using a draft version of his Polemos WSS 2nd edition rules. Once again, players are welcome to come and have a go. As with Nick on the GNW and Peter on the Colonial games, these are rare opportunities to play these games with the rules writer in front of you, so you get to quiz them to your heart's content.

In addition to these great games, Dr. Mike will be running his wonderful 6mm Painting Clinic. This is your chance to learn the tips and hints at first hand. Figures, paints and brushes are provided for free, and you can cover anything you want help with, from the most basic to the most advanced techniques. I cannot recommend these sessions highly enough!

Wow, these are SO much easier to paint than those 28mm things!

On Sunday afternoon, we'll be hosting a Rules Writers Seminar. This proved very popular last year, and is back by popular request. We'll be setting up some stocks for Chris Grice, Nick Dorrel and Peter Riley, and let Polemos players loose on them for an hour or so…

There will be a painting competition, for those of you who fancy showing your 6mm army off. There will be a prize, and entry is free.

Entry to the event is just £1.00 GBP, which is a bargain no matter which way look at it! You can find some more details if you go here.

With the Open Day on the Saturday and the Gaming Day on the Sunday, why not make a weekend of it? We'll be having a Baccus beer-and-curry night on Saturday, so come and join us. If you like 6mm, then Sheffield will be the place to be on 21st and 22nd July.
