Patrick Leigh Fermor writes of taking part in a Greek cavalry charge as a civilian in 1935-36-37 time frame. This was, IIRC, in conjunction with a failing coup or anti-bandit action (at any rate, Greece wasn't actively at war with another nation).

There is a film, You Can't Win 'Em All, with Charles Bronson and Tony Curtis, set during the Asia Minor campaign that would provide some background for a Pulp game.
