Steve has posted the Battle of Bergen, a scenario in DOC format for the upcoming Age of Honor rules, to the NapoleonicFireandFury Yahoo! Group.
With the French capture of Frankfurt in January, Ferdinand of Brunswick resolved to risk a long march in the bad weather to attack Broglie near the city. Ferdinand first launched a diversionary attack towards Hessen then a surprise march towards Frankfurt. Broglie though managed to concentrate a force at the fortified town of Bergen. Thinking the French were not in strength at Bergen, Ferdinand attacked with the vanguard of Erbprinz alone. He was soon repulsed by the French numerical and artillery superiority. When further allied troops arrived they too were fed piece meal into the attack. The battle quickly died down into a long ineffective artillery duel. Broglie though successful in defending Bergen missed an opportunity with his larger and fresher force to deliver a crushing counterattack against Ferdinand. Allied losses came to 2,700 (12%) compared to 2,100 (7%) French losses.
