I am ridiculously happy that people are still buying and enjoying "Battle in Africa" twenty years after I wrote it.

Howard I got that book about 20 years ago! I have not looked over my Colonials since I gave away my Ral Partha figures. That was about 10-15 years ago.

As for two handed swords, the Renissance (I that that is the period) shows armoured Europeans fighting with mani Sword and small sword. Training Manuals from the era also show movements with two swords so it was a practice that makes sense.

As to Patty G. The book I have always used (and the hardback he did with much more detail) as a primer on the ACW for kids and guys just getting into the period.

Korean Artillery? Bring it on baby!

We now have in stock a limited supply of Paddy Griffith's excellent Battle in the American Civil War and Howard Whitehouse's inspirational Battle in Africa 1979-1914, both of which are handsomely illustrated throughout in black-and-white by Peter Dennis. The books are packed with information on campaigning, tactics and strategy for each period. Battle in Africa, unfortunately, will not be published again. 48 pages. First published in 1987. £10.00 GBP

We also thought we'd show you a few of the greens coming up. The Black Militia for the American War of Independence can be used for either side, although I will be making some specifically for the British, as in some cases they were given a particular uniform.

Black Militia

We said there would be some bizarre troop types coming up and here they are: Korean heavy cavalry and infantry with twin swords! The cavalry were particularly skilled (well, you'd have to be!), so these were a rare troop type. However, the twin-sworded infantry were not uncommon. The next release of Koreans will include five packs of heavy infantry and the twin-sworded cavalry and infantry shown here. Many thanks must go to Jude Oh in Korea for a massive amount of new info sent to me on the Choson Koreans, without which these and many more new additions to the range would have been impossible to make.

Twin-sworded cavalry

All the current information on Koreans in the West tends to suggest that their infantry were unarmoured (which is why my original Koreans were), but this new info explodes that theory. The Central (main) Army or O Wi were in fact all heavily armoured infantry, as well as the cavalry. So the new-look Koreans coming this way soon!
