Assault on Pensacola
May 8th-9th, 1781
Background: After months of preparation and of weeks of hard campaigning, General Galvez' forces began their siege of Pensacola in March 1781. Over the course of several weeks, Spanish forces landed their initial invasion force as they engaged the British Navy for control of the area. Having forced the British Navy back into the bay and made their way through the bay defenses, Galvez' force awaited his reinforcements from Havana while his land army marched from Mobile.
The Spanish army was composed of Colonial and Royal troops of the Spanish and French crowns. The French arrived just in time to take a small part in the action.
Scenario: Beginning at the 6AM Day Segment, General Galvez decided that with the arrival of fresh troops and powder, the time was right for the full assault on Pensacola and its defenses.
The British awaited the attack with three prepared positions and various fortifications. Although outnumbered and lacking in some basic supplies, British General Campbell would face his destiny with confidence.
Can you hold the Spanish at bay? Can you, as Galvez, take Pensacola back from the British? Will the French get to capture the treasury in Pensacola to allow their fleet to sail to help Washington at Yorktown?
