Our 18mm scale Crimean War range continues to expand to cover more of the troop types present at the Battle of Balaclava. Mike Broadbent has sculpted some important additions to the Russian forces, and we also have some colour pictures of the British Heavy Brigade from the first release to show you.
Those of you wanting to build Russian armies will be pleased to get their hands on our new 18mm scale Russian infantry variants, now available in caps and greatcoats, to supplement our already released Russian infantry in helmets. The helmeted figures are great for Guard units and the like, but caps were by far the most common item of headgear worn by the regular Russian infantry, so these new figures are obviously an important addition to the range. As with all our figures, the basic rank and file soldiers are supplied in multiple variants, with different arm and head positions, to give your units a varied and interesting appearance. All the relevant command figures are available as well.
We can also offer you some additional Russian gunners, in the form of Don Cossack artillery crew to go with the regular Russian artillery crew released last year. There are five different crew figures – a cap wearing officer and four gunners in their distinctive Don Cossack headgear.
Coming soon will be British high command, as well as British Guards and line infantry for some of the later Crimean War battles. In the meantime we have updated the Crimean section of the website to include black and white pictures of all the currently available figures. We also thought you might like to take a look at some colour pictures of our British heavy cavalry, painted for us by local Melbourne professional figure painter Vic Jones. A timely reminder perhaps, that the Heavy Brigade successfully charged a much larger force of Russian cavalry at Balaclava, only for this glorious exploit to be overshadowed by a much more infamous action involving the Light Brigade on the same day.
