run home ( US sport term for rushing to opponent "objective" point).
ww1, ww2 saw the overweelming power of machine guns against soft tagets at it's heights, resulting in an evolution of platoons to compagny into more skirmishing formations . a position hold by a set machine gun too deadly for frontal attacks not to be a kind of suicide ( real machine guns don't stop firing when setting fire upon an area so it's potential targets need cover, flanking and/ or another MG to match the firefight).
MG group was also to cover the aproach or defense of most low level organisation, with less doctrinal preparation then actual armies.
