Third, is is not loss. Just some were tired and went on vacation.

The choice is yours with Eureka Miniatures' new 28mm Force Recon Marines!

28mm US Force Recon Marines

Whether it is stalking through the jungle on deep reconnaissance missions, fast roping on to an oil rig in a direct action strike, or scouting beach landing zones in advance of a larger assault - the Marines of Force Recon are the very tip of the spear in a modern and highly mobile global force. Kosta Hersitanidis has designed a six-figure set representing a typical six-man Force Recon team, plus an additional sniper figure.

Combining attributes of stealth and firepower, as well as the latest high-tech communication and surveillance gear, Marine Force Recon represent a highly capable though rarely seen branch of the American Special Forces. Marines from the Force Recon companies are fully special-operations capable, being versed in techniques such as amphibious insertion and extraction, combat diving, freefall parachuting, mountain warfare and cold weather operations. As part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) or MEU (SOC), Force Recon teams can be tasked with either deep reconnaissance ("Green Side") surveillance and intelligence gathering missions, or direct action ("Black Side") missions against specific targets.

Regardless of the type of mission, its location, or the opposition - Force Recon Marines have the training, equipment, and determination to see the job through! They operate in teams of six men, comprised of a Recon Team Leader, his Assistant Team Leader, a Field Radio Operator, Recon Man, Recon/Scout, and Recon Scout/Driver. This is a departure from the more familiar four-man fire teams and is a reflection of the extra surveillance and communications equipment that Force Recon Teams invariably carry on Deep Reconnaissance missions.

This new set of six miniatures represents just such a team. They are for the most part armed with M4A1 Carbines (the latest version of the M16 Rifle); a weapon that has evolved into a highly customizable system which can be equipped with holographic or telescopic sights as well as aiming lasers or illuminators. Also represented is the M203 Grenade Launcher, which when attached to the M4 provides significant additional firepower. More sustained fire-support comes from the M249 ParaSAW, the American version of the Belgian Minimi, here being carried by the radio operator in our set and fitted with a 30 round M16 magazine rather than the usual 200 round box magazine. As always Kosta has paid careful attention to the details, and a noteworthy characteristic of these miniatures is their webbing and load bearing gear. This consists of an authentic mix of older ALICE style webbing or commercially manufactured rigs (such as those from Black Hawk Tactical), as well as both standard issue and privately acquired packs.

As already mentioned, in addition to our six-man Force Recon Team, Kosta has also made a sniper, armed with the fearsome.50 Cal Barrett Sniper Rifle for engaging long-range targets or in a anti-material capability.
