Aussiejed of Eureka Miniatures writes:

Eureka Miniatures are proud to announce our first major release in 28mm for the Wars of the French Revolution. A major new project for us, that we hope to develop and expand to embrace all aspects and theatres of the wars that raged across Europe and elsewhere between 1792 and the Peace of Amiens in 1802 - and beyond, into the early Napoleonic Imperial period.

28mm Wars of the French Revolution

As this is the French Revolution, it seemed only right that we start the ball rolling with the French themselves. So here we have French fusiliers in bicorne and grenadiers in bearskin, all dressed in the long-tailed coat of the period, and in march-attack pose. All these figures (and all future French infantry releases) can be ordered in either a smart, well-equipped regulation uniform look, or with a much scruffier, ragged campaign appearance, with no less than 40 (yes - 40!) different rank-and-file figure variants available in just this first release alone. Naturally, multi-variant command figures are supplied as well, with mounted and dismounted officers, drummers, and standardbearers. All figures are sculpted by Alan Marsh, with further conversions by Kosta Heristanidis.

The two types, smart and ragged, can be applied in varying degrees across the whole period, depending on which Revolutionary Wars campaign you wish to recreate and how disheveled you want your demi-brigades to look. The regulation uniform figures are especially suited to the better-equipped armies of the Consulate and early Napoleonic periods from around 1800 to perhaps as late as 1807, but they will serve just as well for the bicorne-wearing regiments of the National Guard right at the start of the French Revolution (before their uniforms began to rapidly deteriorate on campaign). For the rest of the Revolutionary Wars, we would suggest using the smarter figures sparingly amongst a greater mass of ragged campaign types.

Even greater figure variation (in addition to the 40 basic infantry variants offered here) will be possible in the near future with more French releases, such as grenadiers in bicorne, line infantry in the early casque ('Tarleton' style) helmet, and a variety of different poses (from the march-attack featured here) which will include 'looser' advancing figures, skirmishers, and firing-by-files poses. French chasseurs and other light infantry types are in the pipeline, as well as Austrian opposition.

For you confirmed Napoleonic gamers (who might find anything before the great man's dominance a little 'beyond the pale'?) we have included a selection of voltigeurs (a further 17 variants - and more to come, in skirmishing poses, etc.) so you can add voltigeur companies to your post-1804 battalions. This extends the range up into the momentous 1805 and 1806 campaigns.
