Warships of the Royal Navy

A Matomaton Collectible Cards Image Collection for Wargamers

250 images from four series of collectible cards from the first half of the 20th Century, depicting British naval vessels of that period. Together they make an excellent resource for military historians and wargamers.

Details

This collection contains images of the fronts and backs of 100 and 25 cards in four series:

  • 50 cards from British Warships series I & II (Mitchell & Sons)
  • 25 cards from Battleships & Crests
  • 25 cards from British Warships (Godfrey Phillips)
  • 25 cards from British Naval Craft

The PDF contains two pages for the cover and legalese, and then four or six (the final series) images per page.

Available Now or Coming Soon!

This is one of many such collections of collectible card series covering military uniforms, naval life, and army insignia, amongst other subjects, that I will be releasing.

There is also a collection of large, color images of the Ships Of The Royal Navy, and a collection illustrating the development of British naval uniforms.

About Collectible Cards

In the 1870s and 1880s, cigarette companies began issuing series of collectible cards, one card with each packet of their brand. Each series could run to 25, 50, or even a hundred cards (occasionally many more), and depicted various subjects, though primarily famous people (actresses, sportsmen and leaders), places and animals. Some brands, notably in the U.K., ran a number of series depicting military uniforms, naval vessels, and many other related subjects.

About Matomaton

I've long been fascinated by military history and the development of the Royal Navy through the years. These cards make fascinating collections in their own right, but they also make easily accessible guides to contemporary and earlier military uniforms, etc.

By providing these collections, I am neither endorsing the brands represented nor encouraging the smoking of tobacco.
