Why hasn't anyone sold variants of the rules? (like the d20-open gaming license) It seems to me that it would give the game greater reach. The whole concept sounds interesting. I just checked out the game, and it looks like fun. The d20 license for D&D spawned alot of amazing products. I wonder if anyone has tried anything like that. I think Aetherverse wanted to do something similiar, but they went under quick. Too bad, I purchased their rulebook, and it looked pretty decent.

Sylvain of Golgo Island writes:

We are pleased to announce our upcoming new game and range of 28mm Pulp/B-Movie figures, Golgo Island!

Soon on your screens!

Golgo Island is the result of the association of:

  1. Monolith Designs, manufacturers of high quality resin terrain, as well as of the Graven Image and From Beyond figure ranges.
  2. Dark Tortoise Productions, editors of the WarEngine, the universal and now open-source ruleset which originated ShockForce and GWAR, Rumble in Antarctica.
  3. Sylvain Boudeele (of the Iron Dream Tournament committee), who designed and sculpted the figures, and tweaked the WarEngine to this new setting of character-driven adventure.

The first release should be out by the end of the year, and will include 12 fearless characters, 5 brain-eating modern zombies, and 2 multi-part hairy atomic mutant creatures, together with a set of rules using the WarEngine – and available for free from the WarEngine Wiki.

Previewed here are the first miniatures out of the master moulds at Monolith Designs:

4 heroes ready to rumble in Golgo Island
  • Robert Leclerc, international-class secret agent
  • Gunther, baseball bat-wielding maniac
  • Renato Ramirez, clone in fancy dress.
  • Thor Pasadenas, luchador (wrestler) with a heart of gold

The other miniatures will be moulded very soon, and include more wacky figures for some fast-paced, two-fisted, and firmly tongue-in-the-cheek action.

Soon available from Monolith Designs

Sculpted by Sylvain Boudeele (with the help of a few Hasslefree bits and bobs), the figures are 28mm scale and cast in pewter with an integral base – pictured plastic bases are not included.

Though pricing is still subject to change, they should be sold by Monolith Designs in packs of 4 or 5 (depending on type and size) for £5.00 GBP.

Together with the free rules, this may be the opportunity you were looking for to give the WarEngine a try or to get into a new exciting gaming genre at an affordable price.
