We're proud to present our Khurasanian infantry, in three new codes: long spearmen, zupinmen (Dailami), and axemen. These are the most accurate models available for Eastern Islamic infantry before the Crusades, though they could be used for quite some time after that as well, and are superbly crafted by Sandra Garrity.
Along with our Eastern Islamic foot archers (which are already available), these are perfect for Dailami, Khurasanian spearmen, Ghaznavid infantry, and all of the Eastern Islamic-influenced infantry in the area (such as existed in large numbers in Abbasid armies).
Note the four different figures in the above photo - the first and last have the classic, pointed steel helmet of Eastern Islamic troops; the second wears a turban-wrapped galansuwah cap; and the third, a tall padded cap over a helmet that includes mail face protection. All have short swords, as well.
The zupinmen have the fierce double-pointed short spear that was the mark of the renowned Dailami, the long spearmen wield a 12-foot spear, and the axemen have the large infantry axe as found at the Moshchevaya Balka burial site. Dailami were known to have used a mixture of zupins and axes. Second ranks of long spearmen may have also used the zupin to throw overhead.
Each pack comes with a mixture of round and oval shields as well, for further variety.
We're very pleased with them - they are just the thing to give that authentic look to your 15mm Eastern Islamic forces!
