Greetings, Cadets!
It has been a long time since the Hydra Miniatures team has posted an update about the highly anticipated War Rocket game and miniatures. However, our silence doesn't mean we've been idle. Our digital sculptors, Phil Beauchamp and Steve Meli, have been busy finishing ship designs, making sure we produce the best sculpts possible. Rules author John Douma and the playtest teams have been fine-tuning the War Rocket rules to create a fast-paced and tactically challenging game that captures the feel of space combat straight out of the Golden Age of Pulp Sci-Fi. The Hydra Team is very pleased with the game and miniatures, and we are happy to report that we are reaching the launching point for this ambitious project. Therefore, we feel confident that we can set some firm release dates for War Rocket:
Introductory War Rocket Release: April 23, 2010
On Friday, April 23, 2010, we will release our first wave of War Rocket miniatures in our online store. This first release will feature the first two ships (Class 1 and Class 2) from each of the four War Rocket factions. In the months leading up to the first release date, we'll be profiling each of the four factions and showing photos of the actual painted models.
The Big War Rocket Launch at Gen Con 2010
The Hydra Team will attend Gen Con Indy from August 5-8, 2010. Starting Thursday, August 5, we will have the War Rocket rules for sale in the Gen Con dealer hall. In addition, we plan to release all of the larger rockets (Class 3 and Class 4) for all four factions. The rules and miniatures will be posted on our Hydra Miniatures online store starting Tuesday, August 10, so fans who couldn't attend Gen Con can purchase the figures and rules shortly after our return from Indiana.
The Hydra Team also plans to run War Rocket demonstration games in the Gen Con miniatures hall so that players can test-drive the rules. We are also exploring some other special War Rocket promotions, possibly even a painting contest.
Creating a rulebook and series of miniatures from scratch has been an eye-opening and sometimes daunting experience, and the Hydra Miniatures team wants to thank you all for your patience. We're sure War Rocket will be worth the wait!
