From the designer of FiveCore, Five Men in Normandy, and FAD, among the various projects that I am working on at any given time, the next chosen for completion is Three Klicks From Base, a set of platoon-level rules for Cold War and contemporary warfare. Whether you want to game Soviets in Germany in 1974, Americans in Afghanistan in 2010, or Norwegian peacekeepers in New York 2021, we have you covered.
This will not be a FiveCore game, but rather uses an original system, though it features mechanics that are somewhat similar. One is limiting the number of figures that can act. Another is having suppression built right into the firing mechanic, and emphasizing movement and reaction fire.
The combat mechanics have been received well by testers so far, giving a fun game with the feel of playing like a decent news story report of a battle. Uniquely, casualties are relatively limited, and the game captures the unique differences between professional troops, conscripts and irregular militia, and insurgent types.
Average forces are about a platoon, but works from about a squad each up to a well-reinforced platoon of troops.
Figures based individually. The designer plays in 15mm, but you could play in smaller or larger scales as desired.
The full feature list will include campaign rules, a random mission generator, and tables to flesh out your campaigns, such as political demands, blunders, and contributing to an overall military operation.
I am hoping the game will be available mid-to-late next month, but that will depend on how everything goes. If you have requests, this would be a good time to get in touch.
