"When FoG was announced, I was floored because it appeared to be the perfect DBx/WRG replacement rules, and were even touted as such. Many of those getting in early (playtesting, etc.) were 15mm gamers, but now we have the rules pushing this focus on 28mm "official" miniatures and pics, and which also appears to be changing the scale focus of the rules as well."

I think you were right the first time! ;) The scale focus of FoG is exactly the same as it was before the marketing agreement with WF was announced… playable with both 15mm and 25mm figures.

A poll currently being taken in the Slitherine FoG discussion forum indicates that those responmding intend to play FoG in the following scales:

15mm – 65%
25/28mm – 10%
Both 15mm and 25/28mm – 18%
6mm – 4%
10mm – 0%
Some other combination of scales – 2%

The remaining 1% is divided up among fractions for the various other amounts.

It seems as if the FoG discussion board members aren't nearly as concerned about the marketing announcement as are a handful people here on TMP.

Cheers,
Scott

SLITHERINE PARTNERS WITH WARGAMES FACTORY TO RAISE ARMIES FOR THE FIELD OF GLORY MINIATURE WARGAMING RULES

Wargames Factory to produce official Field of Glory miniatures line

Field of Glory, the new Ancient and Medieval wargaming rules from Slitherine Strategies and Osprey Publishing, will be supported by a full range of plastic multi-part miniature figures from Wargames Factory.

Wargames Factory is launching an extensive new line of plastic box sets to support the Field of Glory game. The first releases will be Late Republican Romans (the Legions of Julius Caesar) and Celts. The miniatures will be available in 48-figure box sets for $29.95 USD, and will feature a variety of separate arms, heads, shields, and body types for maximum customization. The company is committed to an aggressive release schedule that will allow Field of Glory players to deploy armies from all the eras featured in the game. More details can be found at wargamesfactory.com.

Wargames Factory CEO Tony Reidy explains the genesis of the relationship: "When we first became aware of the Field of Glory rules and saw the high-quality production values that Slitherine and Osprey were bringing to them, we knew that they would be the perfect fit for our new line of hard plastic multi-part miniatures. In speaking with the team at Slitherine, we quickly realized that this was a rules system that cried out for a complimentary range of miniature armies. Wargames Factory is the first company to focus on hard plastic miniatures in 28mm (Wargames Standard 1/56th Scale) for the historical market and we believe these sets, in partnership with this great new rules system, will revolutionize tabletop gaming."

JD McNeil, Director of Slitherine, said: "Creating Field of Glory has been a tremendous challenge and we are now thrilled to see the ruleset coming together. The opportunity of working with Wargames Factory, an emerging force in historical miniatures production, has brought a new dimension to the whole project. Their accurately modeled range will certainly complement Field of Glory."

What is Field of Glory?

Field of Glory is a wargaming rules system that uses model figures and terrain to recreate the great battles of the Ancient and Medieval world, written by some of the biggest names in the wargaming community, including the co-author of the popular DBM rules, Richard Bodley Scott.

Field of Glory allows players to use Wargames Factory miniatures to re-fight historical scenarios or create their own "what if" battles. It is being released in February 2008 along with two companion books, Rise of Rome and Storm of Arrows. These books, which are the first of many, focus on specific time periods or geographical regions in the Ancient and Medieval world, giving historical overviews and comprehensive army lists for all of the major and minor powers.

Field of Glory is the first set of wargames rules that has been designed for and made available to a wide audience and will be available from traditional hobby outlets to mass market booksellers. The game is set to revolutionize historical wargaming.
