The November Issue of Wargames Illustrated Available Now

Very disappointed with the October WI issue. Bought it on the strength of the cover feature promising a "Rules Showcase" on Gripping Beast's new Swordpoint rules.

When you got to the rather vague article itself, it confusingly mentions the outcome of a sample game but the game is not described in the text at all.

It is not until you read the Editor's notes (there is no mention of "bonus digital content" with the article itself) that you are told that the playthrough and interview are available, but in the tablet edition only.

This is not bonus content, you need this for a "Rules Showcase" to mean anything. Certainly a significant drop in quality compared to previous Dark Ages showcases which persuaded me into SAGA etc. before the move to "part digital".

What was even more disappointing was that I wrote to the editor via their website three weeks ago to make these points, and have not had the courtesy of a reply.

The impression is very much that you are not seen as a true customer any more unless you are paying for 'Prime access'

I will certainly be much more careful in parting for my cash for WI in future, I want to get what I have paid for and what is promised on the cover…

I'm still interested in Swordpoint, so I've just bought Wargames Soldiers and Strategy as they have a review article. If Wargames Illustrated was still of the standard it was a couple of years ago, I wouldn't have had to …
