OMM's news item here can't compete with Super Bowl adverts, but then again, you won't find an impressive array of new uniform guides in an ad... and don't forget the rules, minis, scenario books, and more heating up the table.

IMPORTED FROM ITALY...

(and all books are in stock)

THE BATTLE OF TANNENBERG-GRUNWALD 1410: The Teutonic Knights' Grave - Tannenberg was the first battle won against the Order. The great battle has two names for a reason. The place where the battle took place is called 'hill of the firs' (Tannenberg in German language), but around it there was a forest of low trees, 'the green forest' (in German dialect Grunwald) and a village called Grunfeld. The battle was described in a 'Chronica Conflictus' contained in 'Rerum scriptores Prussicarum' and 'Historiae Poloniae' by the Polish priest Jan Dlugosz, whose father directly participated in the battle, and who interviewed many other known survivors. Includes eight full-color pages, with many b/w illustrations and maps. Italian text, but English captions to images. All color plates have full English translations. $32 USD

KNIGHTS AT JOUSTS AND TOURNAMENTS: During XV & XVI Century: Volume 1 - This two-book set covers knights' participation in jousts and tournaments during the golden years between 1400 and 1500, where they fought for honor, glory, wealth, and the most coveted prize of them all - the favor of the ladies. Rules, judging, and pageantry are all covered, from the earliest tournaments to the last years of competition, complemented with gorgeous full-color uniform plates and many black and white illustrations. Each volume includes 12 full-color pages, with many b/w illustrations. Italian text, but English captions to images. All color plates have full English translations. $32 USD per volume.

THE IMPERIAL ARMY in the Age of Prince Eugene of Savoy 1690-1720: The infantry - Volume 1, 2, 3 - Eugene, Prince of Savoia-Carignano and Count of Soissons, became a general at 24 years old and a Field- Marshal at 27. He is considered to be the most famous commander of the history of the Imperial army. When the French king refused him entry to the army, Eugene went to Austria, where he soon showed his worth not only on the field of battle, but in the field of diplomacy where he was known throughout Europe as 'the secret emperor.' This three volume series examines the Imperial Army's organization, equipment, and uniforms as well as its history and evolution to the time of the great Italian captains. Each volume includes eight full-color pages, with many b/w illustrations and maps. Italian text, but English captions to images. All color plates have full English translations. $32 USD per volume.

KINGDOM OF ITALY: ITALIAN ARMY 1805-14 - Volume 1: The Infantry. The first seeds for the eventual unification of Italy in 1861 began with the aftereffects of the French Revolution with the birth in 1805 of the Kingdom of Italy, which was itself derived from the Republic Cisalpino Cispadana. Through the next decade, Italian autonomy rose and fell with the pace of the Napoleonic wars, but was ever driven by the rule of law, helped in part by the legislation by Napoleon. Includes eight full-color pages, with many b/w illustrations and maps. Italian text, but English captions to images. All color plates have full English translations. $32.00 USD

FOREIGN VOLUNTEERS and INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES in SPAIN: 1936-39. The International Brigades were volunteer military units composed of foreigners who fought on the side of the Second Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War. Motivated to fight on political or social grounds, they made their way to Spain independently of the Spanish government. Originally, there was no real organization to the streams of volunteers arriving from every quarter of the world, but eventually, the units evolved into brigades. Includes eight full-color pages, with many b/w illustrations and maps. Italian text, but English captions to images. All color plates have full English translations. $32 USD

ABYSSINIAN SKIES: Memories and Shots of an Italian Volunteer in the Ethiopian War 1935-36 - This is the first book of the WAR series in color and based on memoirs of an Italian soldier who fought in the war. In this series, several black and white images are 'recolored' by our artists with the help of special software to obtain wonderful and new images of the war. Abyssian sky offers an interesting research about the Italian-Ethiopian war of 1935-36. The last great colonial conflict of the 20th century also found aviation playing an important part with bombardments and use of deadly gas. Includes 12 full-color pages, with many b/w illustrations and maps. Italian text, but English captions to images. All color plates have full English translations. $32 USD

AND FINALLY, A WARGAME...

S&T #267: RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR. Special edition wargame with two maps, four half counter sheets, and 32 pages of rules. Russian Civil War is a redesigned 1976 SPI multi-player wargame of the military and political conflict of 1918-1921 that abolished the Czarist regime and created the foundation of the modern Soviet Union. The basic game is designed for three to six players, each of whom controls one or more factions among the revolutionary, counter-revolutionary, nationalist, and interventionist forces that participated in the chaotic struggle to determine Russia's future. The new map now covers Central Asia and Mongolia. Additional units have been added to account for specialized formations, foreign interventionist, and nationalist forces. Additional markers have been added to represent various special events not previously covered. The rules have also been clarified, and some modifications have been made. Several optional rules have also been added. Articles in this issue include:

  • Russian Civil War, 1918-23. A military history and political dissection of the conflict that shaped much of the world's history in the 75 years following it.
  • Marengo. Napoleon almost lost everything in this early major battle. He cared about the damage it did to his early reputation that he kept rewriting its history for the rest of his life afterward.
  • William the Conqueror. William's troubles in Britain didn't win when he 'conquered' the place in 1066. This is the story of the many follow-on wars he had to fight to secure his new realm.
  • Tanks That Might've Been. U.S. armor underwent major redesign in the two decades after World War II. This is the story of that design evolution.

Issue with wargame: $50.00 USD
