It is time for Historicon again, and I will be running two events that will be using a new format this year.
Instead of using just two armies to run a game with six players (three per side, one per command), I will be running a demo that uses four armies, each with two commands.
The armies themselves will be rather small: 500 to 600 points.
They are designed to have the players sit down and begin learning to play the game themselves without having to have the referee or event organizer (me) help them with everything.
Each player will still control one command of between two and four units of between 2 and 8 elements. This will allow players to be able to have at least one type of each atypical distinctive (Untrained, Professional, Heavy, Fast, Fx, etc) in the game... So, each player will just be responsible for remembering the behavior of that one type of distinctive - in addition to the troop type, grade, and combat roles, which everyone will need to know.
I figure that if Brian helps out, that we can get the basics down in under an hour, and still have three to four hours to play, which, with smaller armies and a smaller battlefield should result in at least one of the games coming to a definitive conclusion (probably the Mongol v Russian game - as the Mongols either get an early advantage or they wind up being severely misused and have an early demise).
If I manage to get the armies finished, I also plan to do a Lord of the Rings Hoplon game as well. I have about 2/3 of a Rohirrim Army done, and I could probably get an army of Isengard Orcs done fairly quickly, since they are very simple figures to paint. Again, I want to get around 600 points of each finished to do a relatively small game (doing it in 28mm also makes for a more spectacular looking game as well).
So, I hope that anyone who is lurking out there will drop by. The games will probably be in the Theatre (I am hoping, as I get the best exposure there - I should probably request that).
I also have been given a new camera over the last semester that automatically synchs with my computer... so, pictures will be a lot easier to remember this time.
