Appomattox

A scenario for my grand-tactical American Civil War ruleset, Borrowing the Army. Please note: You will need the base game to play this.

While the nine scenarios in the base game were very much designed as sandboxes with a couple of specific special rules for you to play around with, this one is much more narratively driven. As such, I have several pages of special rules to show the unique situation the armies were in during spring of 1865. The scenario begins on March 31st, 1865, with the initial trench warfare stalemate outside Petersburg, then the Confederate Waterloo at Five Forks, Grant's breakthrough the next day, and the week of harrying battles and pursuit to run down the Army of Northern Virginia. All are able to be replicated here, with victory conditions focused on Lee evacuating his army or Grant snagging as many units as possible (if not them all).

However, there are still options. Perhaps Grant wants to flank further west and take the indirect approach? Maybe Lee wants to evacuate sooner to try and save more of his army? Or will there be a stand-up fight between the two armies in the vicinity of Appomattox Court House or Lynchburg? The choice is yours.

Happy Gaming!
