MILITARY UNIFORMS IN THE NETHERLANDS 1752-1800 In 1903, the Military Historical Archive in the Netherlands inherited a large quantity of source material. In this legacy was a volume of illustrations of Dutch military uniform coats, dating from the second half of the eighteenth century, and a series of drawings of uniforms made by Duncan Macalester Loup (1751-1812). Both items are currently in possession of the Netherlands Institute of Military History (NIMH). Owing to their great detail and colorful rendition, these illustrations are one of the treasures of the Institute's collection.

BATTLE OF TORNAVENTO: 1636 and the 30 Years War in Italy The Battle of Tornavento was a battle fought in Italy on June 22, 1636 during the Thirty Years' War. In 1636, Cardinal Richelieu had persuaded the Duke of Savoy (Vittorio Amedeo I) to launch an offensive on the Spanish Duchy of Milan. A French Army crossed the Ticino river between Oleggio and Lonate Pozzolo, but was checked by a larger Spanish army, and dug in to await their Savoyard allies.
