Tim Gow of Wargame Developments writes:

I am sorry to have to report the death recently of John G. Robertson, the well-known Dundee-based wargamer and historian.

Wreath

John was involved in wargaming for much of his life, and served as mentor to at least two generations of gamers. Until recently, he had attended the wargames club in Perth, and was a member of Wargame Developments. His other interests included re-enacting (as a member of the Sealed Knot) and the study of Scottish history.

I first met John in the late 1970s (I was 13!) when he ran Dundee Wargames Club. It is to John's great credit that he always had time to field silly questions from daft teenagers! He remained very encouraging of others' plans and projects, and a source of great inspiration. He will be greatly missed by many.

John died following a long illness at the age of 75 on Monday, 19 July 2010. He was interred at Dundee's Eastern Cemetery on Tuesday, 27 July.

John is survived by his wife Morina, daughter Pamela, and grandson Owen.
