Attacks made against a U.K. distributor yesterday at TMP have been traced back to Chelgames.
Posting under the membername Duranite, Chelgames posed as someone looking for information about a rival company (Artemis Black's). "Are they a major distributor?" they asked, while observing that the rival company supposedly had a "small stand" with "little activity" at a recent show.
In subsequent posts, "Duranite" continued to criticize the rival company for being a "small outfit," for their shop facilities, and for the quality of their demo games.
When Artemis Black's and other manufacturers attempted to answer these criticisms, Chelgames went on the attack:
However, it is crystal clear that he is a Market Trader masquerading as a distributor... subject closed.
In a final posting, Chelgames insulted their competition as not being capable of even "distributing leaflets."
The attacks were easily traced. Duranite listed an email address in his TMP membership information, and responded to a message sent to that account. Usenet records show that Malcolm Lane, owner of Chelgames, uses that email address - for instance, writing:
Basically, I started Chelgames.com, because in my opinion at the time there were no decent discount traders in the UK doing it right.
