By popular demand, we've created a new product type for Wargames Factory - the Mash-Up!
As we've released set after set, we've been really happy to see more and more wargamers and modelers doing interesting conversions. These can be as simple as a Celt with captured Roman equipment to as complex as Far Future Zulus with laser cannons! (Check out our forums for lots of great pics of conversions!)
Recently, there were several posts out in the blog-o-sphere and wargames forums about suitable figures for the Jewish Revolt (66-73 AD). It got us thinking - and it quickly became obvious that mixing-and-matching parts from the Numidians (Ancient Light Infantry) and Ancient German Warband sets would do the trick quite nicely.
We went ahead and posted some quick conversions using this method - you can read about them in the forum, too - and started getting emails from people who wanted to do the same thing.
Instead of forcing you to buy both sets and have lots of left-overs which you may or may not "need" for your armies - we've created a conversion "mash-up" in which we provide sprues from both sets in #s that allow you to get the most bang for the buck.
The set isn't "perfect" in that the Ancient German sprues include a running figure that really doesn't work for the Jewish Revolt - but you can always do additional conversion (add a cloak perhaps) and/or use as... er, gee, Ancient Germans!
Because it's not a "perfect" fit - we didn't think this was a product that should be packaged and sent off to your Friendly Local Game Shop as it might cause a bit of confusion. But here on the Factory site and webstore, we can explain it fully, and anyone buying will know exactly what they're in for!
This is the first "mash-up," but we can foresee several others (especially with some of the sets we're working on for the future) - so if you like it, please let us know. If you don't like it, let us know too!
The set features (not including those four Ancient Germans) 20 figures with enough equipment to produce a wide range of types - bowmen, slingers, dagger-men, javelinmen, swordmen, clubmen, etc. And you can build command elements with more ornate headgear, standards, horn-arms, and even captured Roman equipment!
