Grenadier Productions is proud to release 15mm militia cavalry, the latest figures set in the fast-growing range of Liberators! Miniatures. This range, all sculpted by Mike Broadbent, recreates troops who fought in South America's wars of independence.
Spanish colonial rule had long been maintained using local militia forces. On the vast frontiers of what is today northern Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay, the militia cavalry was the first line of defense, fighting first against local bandits and Indian uprisings, and later participating in campaigns against the Portuguese and British. While lacking in the formal training and experience of their European counterparts, they were more than a match in a one-on-one fight, and terrifyingly effective in pursuit of a defeated foe.
The militia cavalry in this set of releases can be used to represent both Patriot and Royalist units, especially in the early battles from 1810-1813. They can also be used to create certain elite gaucho cavalry units that fought the Royalists from 1814-1821. There are three packs in this set: troopers with lance, troopers with sabers, and command. Each trooper pack contains four horses and riders, while the command pack contains an officer, trumpeter and two horses.
