Still, IIRC Minifig's markets it's products as being N scale

Just to be really pedantic, 10/12 mm is of course a measurement, and 'N' is a gauge being 'N' for 'narrow' or possible 'nine' – 9mm being the distance between the rails :-)

Now then… this is further complicated by N gauge actually varying in scale, depending upon the manufacturer (or country), and ranging from from 1:148 to 1:160.

In the United States and Europe models are built to 1:160 scale. In the United Kingdom a scale of 1:148 is used. Of course some modellers use '2mm' (2mm to the foot) which works out at 1:152. In Japan, a scale of 1:150 is used, except the standard gauge Shinkansen (Bullet Train) which is built to 1:160.

I thought the Minifigs 12mm range was built to 1:160, which would tend to make 1:144 a bit on the large size. I am aware that there were issues in the early stages whereby UK-built Minifigs models were scaled differently and some had to be rebuilt.
