Eureka Releases 28mm Colonial Wars: 1890 Greek Evzones
Eureka are pleased to announce the release of a range of 28mm Greek Evzones for around 1890 to 1900. Sculpted by Mike Broadbent, these elite Greek troops are depicted in the later 19th Century field uniform, but they retain their distinctive Evzone appearance. This is a small range, but as always we offer you several figure variants and all the appropriate command figures.
The Evzones have represented the elite of the Greek army since the long war of independence from the Ottoman Empire (1821-32). The word Evzone apparently means "well belted one," and has its roots in Homeric literature. Most people who are familiar with Greece today will know of these colourful soldiers, wearing their Foustanella (pleated kilt) and pom-pom shoes, while fulfilling their highly disciplined ceremonial duties in Athens.
Our Evzones are based on a number of picture sources for the late 19th Century, including a particularly useful picture from the Illustrated London News. We were, of course, tempted to design these figures in full traditional Evzone garb, complete with the Foustanella, but this would have been more appropriate for the earlier wars of independence, and we realised most gamers would find the field uniform more useful for this later period.
However, our figures still wear the traditional cap, leggings and shoes to retain the important Evzone appearance. There are four different variants for the rank and file, which are complimented with an officer, standard bearer and bugler. They are particularly useful for recreating actions from the Greco-Turkish War of 1897, but they can also be employed for any number of operations across the Aegean and the Balkans around the turn of the century.
Here are the catalogue details of the new miniatures:

Those of you interested in these figures might wish to take a look at our other 19th Century ranges, including 1864 Austrians, 1864 Danes, or our Russo-Turkish War range. We had a great response to the 1864 Austrians which we released a few weeks ago, and we would like to remind those of you who are fans of the more obscure wars of the 19th Century that our 28mm custom miniatures service, the 100 Club, can potentially supply you with all those unusual troop types that you crave. Current requests include 1830-45 British infantry in the bell-top shako, as well as 1866 Austrians and Prussian Guard Grenadiers.
You can pre-order any of these figures, or perhaps you have something new you would like add to the 100 Club? Why not send it to us? If we receive 150+ confirmed pre-orders for your idea (between yourself and any other interested parties), we will make the figures and put them into production.
