It must have been different book on Spanish WSS troops them, Soldadets, that I am thinking about as I didn't buy a copy when I had a chance about five years ago.

It may seem paradoxical that, when examining the War of the Spanish Succession, the least well-known armies in this conflict are in fact the Spanish ones. However, it is true that the main information sources available for this war have only sketchy information about orders of battle, uniforms and flags of the Spanish forces of Phillip d'Anjou, for example.

But if little is known about Phillip d'Anjou's Spanish armies, those of his opponent, Archduke Charles of Habsburg, are even more of a mystery.

Wargaming Guide

We would like to help filling this gap by means of a first publication aimed at providing War of Spanish Succession wargamers a comprehensive guide on uniformology, vexillology and basic painting of some of the most obscure armies involved in this early pan-European war: those from Spain. In particular, the most commonly ignored ones - the Austro-Catalan armies of Archduke Charles.

We wouldn't like this first booklet to be an isolated initiative, but to become the first of a whole Wargaming Guides collection devoted to the wars of the Catalans. While expecting whether this eventual collection manages to crystallize, we have already selected a name for it: Desperta ferro!, so evoking the - mythical to us - invocation to battle of the mediaeval Almughavars.

This is not any professional initiative at all, and does not have any economical target, so our booklets will be available for download at no cost, entirely for free.
