Farman MF.11 Shorthorn

This is an STL file for your 3Dprinter of the French WWI aircraft Farman MF.11.

Despite its rather antiquated, fragile appearance, the Farman MF.11 was one of the most prolific aircraft of the First World War.

Used in 1914 and 1915 as a bomber and observation craft, the Farman was a steady platform for shooting, photographing and dropping things onto the heads of German soldiers.

However, the steadiness and lack of maneuverability made the Farman rather easy prey for the increasing amount of German machinegun-armed aircraft appearing in the war-torn skies (if skies could be torn by war).

This led to the Shorthorn's most significant contribution to the Entente war effort – training pilots. The MF.11 – or Rumpty, as she was known affectionately within the RFC – trained thousands upon thousands of aviators and hardly killed any of them, at least compared to other less-forgiving aircraft.

The sturdy landing gear and surprisingly firm construction allowed ham-fisted trainees to screw up to their heart's content and still have them in the pub that evening. Most of the time, anyway.

This model is actually four aircraft in one. There are two versions of two versions, which makes for great fun mixing and matching.

The model is scaled at 1:100. The download also contains a 1:285 scale version.
