Oh hell, it's a great little vignette. How about simply looking at it as a kind of visual metaphor for what actually happened summed up in a neat little scene, rather than get all nitpicky over the details? They also have a vignette depicting Monty and Rommel standing on opposite sides of a map table. Pretty sure that never happened either but cool nonetheless.
