Golgo Island is a fast-paced Pulp/Mulp game built around the WarEngine system (previously incarnated in ShockForce and GWAR: Rumble in Antarctica by DemonBlade Games) that has been around for over two years now on the WarEngine wiki, the free space for all things WarEngine. During that period, Golgo Island has progressively grown into a complete, stand-alone setting; one aimed at bringing all kind of over-the-top action focusing on Pulp or B-Movies heroes to your tabletop for fast-paced, tongue-in-the-cheek games.
Gangsters, kung-fu, sci-fi, horror… - any genre that involves heroes rivaling in unbelievable feats against hordes of helpless villains or apparently undefeatable adversity can be played in the loose and convenient setting of a lost, out-of-time island where everything is possible and any approximation will be forgiven. As that which can do more can do less, the rules can be used for a melting pot of the above or any of them specifically, so the Golgo Island rules have been used for anything from the ever-popular zombie games to treasure hunting, among many other things.
Unlike other Pulp rulesets out there, one of the features of Golgo Island is that it offers game balance guided by a point system, as well as fast and intuitive play, and completely adaptable scenarios and game conditions without requiring an umpire, a game master, or even charts to look up. Thanks to simple yet dynamic game mechanics, heroes and henchmen face non-player opponents and (more or less) random events in non-stop action and pass-me-the-popcorn atmosphere. The amount of details and non-player intervention can be tailored out depending on the number of players involved, so while the game is best played with three or four players, you can enjoy it with more or less of them on board!
By popular demand and by agreement with Dark Tortoise Productions, owners of the WarEngine universal rule system, Golgo Island will be made available in a PDF, regrouping all the relevant WarEngine core rules and the specific additions that have been made to them over the years for the Golgo Island setting. So that 70-page PDF will contain all the game material you need for an extensive experience of the game.
The simple philosophy behind the game has always been that "anything goes," and what we like above all is telling stories and playing with miniatures of all kinds without any restrictions - so the PDF not only includes the profiles for all the miniatures produced by East Riding Miniatures for Golgo Island over the last two years, but also a detailed "how to" that will tell you all you need to know to make the profiles you want for the figures you want to play in the setting you want.
We have worked hard to make this PDF a pleasant and well-laid-out read, and it is now in its final stages before public release, so it is only a matter of weeks before it is publicly available. We are very proud of this new edition, and have had some very positive feedback on the preview version, we therefore hope you will be pleased by the end result, and that it will greatly contribute to the popularity of the game.
While this improved version of the rules in PDF format will be sold for just €10.00 EUR, the original version of the rules will still be available for free from the WarEngine wiki.
