Our third hobby spotlight takes you to the earliest days of America with Muskets and Tomahawks! This exciting new game from the authors of Saga, and done in concert with North Star, has been hugely popular since its release, and we wanted to make sure everyone is aware of all the great options for gaming in this period from Architects of War.

Muskets and Tomahawks

The Game

Muskets and Tomahawks is a 28mm skirmish game from Studio Tomahawk, the creators of Saga. The rules utilize a card-based system for actions and morale (which are included alongside the rulebook). The book allows you to build warbands to game the French and Indian War, the American War of Independence, and many other theaters of war during the 18th Century.

The game size is for small bands of figures (20 to 40 per side). The rulebook contains everything you need to play, and includes a scenario generator, as well as additional rules to expand your gaming with more detailed rules.

The Figures

There are loads of figures that work well with this time period. The official warbands from Studio Tomahawk and North Star Military Miniatures include:

  • British Wilderness Force
  • Native American War Party
  • French Wilderness Force
  • Reinforcements packs for all three warbands to increase your force

In addition to these figures, there are many models available from Perry Miniatures that can be used in their AWI range. Indians, militia, and wagon sets can be particularly useful from the Perry range.

Stock is selling out quickly on the figures, but we have a standing weekly re-order, so use the pre-order if necessary to get yours.

Terrain

Nothing makes a game more exciting than a fantastic board to play it on. Architects of War is proud to offer a great deal of terrain pieces to allow you to recreate many different areas of the early American frontier. This is only the beginning of this range, and there is more to come. Like all AoW terrain pieces, they are highly and authentically detailed, require minimal assembly, and are a breeze to paint. Metal accessories like working doors, where appropriate, and our special "ready to paint" resin are standard throughout.

Skirmish games like Muskets and Tomahawks really benefit from lots of terrain. Head over to the terrain section of our website to see lots more, like our very popular Woods Set.

Whatever you decide to do with your games of Muskets and Tomahawks, remember that it is always up to you to be creative, and most importantly, have fun!
